Sergio Rodrigues
Born in Rio de Janeiro in 1927, from a well-known artistic and intellectual family, Sergio Rodrigues graduated in 1952 from the Facultade Nacional de Arquitetura. In the beginning of the 1950’s he entered the International Design Scene as the creator of the “Poltrona Mole”.  Rodrigues’ “Cantu” and “Sheriff” chairs won important design prizes at the Italian Furniture Fairs in 1957 and 1958.
With Oscar Niemeyer and Lucio Costa, Rodrigues participated actively in the construction of many architectural landmarks of Brasilia.

Responding to a growing new lifestyle vision of the emerging intellectual and social elite, Rodrigues designed modern and daring pieces using traditional materials and craftsmanship.
In his work, Rodrigues combines exceptional traditional woodworking with contemporary and original shapes and scale.
His unique style makes him the Ambassador of Brazilian Culture and the icon of Brazilian Modernism.
Today, Sergio Rodrigues is still active professionally and works in his private studio in Rio de Janeiro.
